Wanderlust Part 5: a quick trip home

“Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.” ― Jack Kerouac, On the Road     I’m not known for keeping things simple. And so it was that I drove, ferried and flew home to Ottawa for a week from Cortes Island to attend my brother’s long planned birthday and the long awaited Wanderlust Tremblant. Though slightly amusing, I won’t bore you with the details of the difficulties associated with coming and going from […]

Days go by at Hollyhock

Days drift by so pleasantly here at Hollyhock. I’m surprised at how busy I manage to be. I’ve really been enjoying my time here. I started in housekeeping on Sunday. On Monday the other volunteers for this session arrived, and yesterday we had our official training day. There was an Oyster BBQ down at the beach for everyone. All I was missing was a crisp pinot grigio and I stared longingly at some of the guests’ glasses. I always forget […]

Hollyhock

First, I think I need to share with you the view from which I write this: A lot of people have heard of Hollyhock and want to visit. You should probably get on that because you never know what the future will bring, and it is an experience not to be missed. I am very, very pleased to be here. It is gorgeous, the food is delicious and healthy, and the ocean a constant backdrop. The people I’ve met are […]

Day 40- From the Valley to the Island!

I was in such a state of relaxation that I had a hard time shifting gears and packing up to depart. It was 10 am before it occurred to me that I was quite a ways from where I wanted to go and I might not be the only person trying to get from the mainland to the Island on a Friday afternoon. I kicked myself in the ass and was soon on my way, salve overjoyed to have found […]

Day 37- Vancouver to Kelowna… and BACK?

After Whistler I left for Kelowna, thinking I was going to head to Calgary and not really knowing what was going to happen after that. I few different options had presented themselves to me, and all that was left to do was pick. I left for Kelowna with a need to keep moving, and a knowing that a good friend waited for me there. I have been most fortunate on this journey to reconnect with the beautiful, powerful, courageous women […]

Wanderlust Part 4- Whistler!

I think I said at some point, under my breath, as I drove through the US, that though the American Rockies were beautiful, the Canadian ones are somehow, more so. It was a feeling that was justified, most especially on the heart-breakingly  scenic drive from Vancouver to Whistler. I’m sorry I didn’t snap any photos, but it just can’t be done justice. If you haven’t done this drive, add it to your bucket list. Definitely a sweet  perk to attending […]

Vancouver!

Vancouver, as always, is beautiful. Unfortunately my visit was slightly tainted by some personal drama. Change is in the air. Once I hit this point in my journey, the plan regarding what to do next in my life is not yet formed, and it kind of freaks me out. Luckily, my good friend Erich was in town to drown my sorrows. I hung out at the yoga studio, Inner Space, a beautiful space, but didn’t have the heart to practice. […]

Seattle

I arrived a bit early and sat in the sun in the park and read my book. Somehow I don’t take enough time to just sit in the sun during regular life. I have to say my trip to Seattle was oh so brief. I mostly went straight to the yoga studio. What I saw was just incredible though. Om Culture has got to be one of the most, if not the most beautiful space to do yoga in I […]
